Blog Post: The Recipe Might Change

There’s something sacred about a recipe—especially the ones you’ve spent time developing, testing, and tweaking over the years. It tells a story. It holds your process. It shows where you started… and how far you’ve come.
But life, like baking, isn’t just about sticking to the recipe.
Sometimes the ingredients change. Sometimes the substitutions surprise you. Sometimes what you thought was “just temporary” ends up being way better than the original plan.
Yes, baking is a science. But it’s also an art. And the same can be said about life. There will be moments when what you planned doesn’t work. The oven runs hot. The dough feels off. The results disappoint you.
And that’s where the real growth happens—not in following the recipe perfectly, but in learning how to adapt with grace.
I’ve seen this in my kitchen, especially with my chocolate chip recipe, the one that started it all. What it is now is not what it was back then.
It took testing. Swapping ingredients. Failing a few batches. Learning which tweaks brought the flavor to life.
It’s the gradual progression of learning what works together and eliminating what doesn’t.Know when to trust the process, which oftentimes means letting God be God - even if that changes the mix altogether.
Baking Tip: When it comes to cookies, the ratio of brown sugar to white sugar changes everything.
Brown sugar adds moisture, chewiness, and a rich, caramel-like depth.
White sugar creates structure, crisp edges, and a lighter finish.

I had to learn how to balance both; when to lean heavier on brown sugar and when to hold back. Some cookies need more structure. Others need more softness. It depends on what you’re trying to create.
The same is true in life. Some seasons call for strength. Others call for tenderness. And wisdom is knowing which to reach for and when.
Life will throw things in your mix: disappointment, delay, failure, and discomfort. But if your faith is steady and your heart is open, you won’t just survive the change.
You’ll come out better because of it.
So yes, learn from where you’ve been. See how far you’ve come. Embrace the evolving recipe—both in the kitchen and in life.
Because when your foundation is faith and your hands are steady…the final result will always come out better than you imagined.
